Mascara for Long Lashes

Long eyelashes are the absolute key to finishing off any makeup look, always! Normally, one of the best ways to get the long lash look is with false eyelashes. But sometimes, if you’re in a rush or in a beauty rut, you might not have the time or desire. That’s when mascara becomes your best friend! When you don’t want to use false eyelashes to get a gorgeous long-lashed look, here are a few great tips to use mascara for long lashes.

Type of mascara for long lashes

When shopping for mascara for long lashes, your best option is to look for mascara that promises to lengthen or volumize, rather than plump or thicken. Mascara that promises to lengthen lashes will give dramatic length to your lashes. Some mascara formulas will even double your lash length! Mascara that promises to volumize lashes will give them a stronger curl and pull them upward. This can create an illusion that your lashes are longer. Mascaras that claim to plump or thicken your eyelashes generally aren’t the best option. They can make lashes look clumpy, which can also make your lashes look stubby and short.

Shape of the brush

The shape of your mascara brush can also help or hinder your quest for long eyelashes with just mascara. Mascara for long lashes will often have hard bristles like a comb to pull the product through the entire eyelash and give length. Volumizing mascaras will often have short bristles to easily grab each eyelash at the root to pull it upward.

Other innovative mascaras are also available to provide you with longer lashes. Fiber mascara will give a mini “extension” to your eyelashes until the mascara is removed. The fibers in the mascara formula help to build up length on your eyelashes. Tubing mascaras will coat your lashes with waxy “tubes” to create a more natural length in appearance. There are even mascara formulas that contain nutrients to promote growth in your eyelashes, making them naturally longer!

Other tips

For getting long lashes with just mascara, an eyelash curler is also a great tool to have on hand, since a curl in your lashes will create the optical illusion that your eyelashes are longer than they really are. For extra curl and hold, you can gently heat your eyelash curler by blasting it with a hair dryer on a low setting, or even keeping it in your pocket for a few minutes while you do the rest of your makeup to be warmed by your body heat. Make sure to test it on your wrist to make sure it hasn’t been heated too much before you curl your lashes!
