How it works

So, how does an eyelash perm work? First, a solution is applied to the lashes. Then, they are curled with a specially heated eyelash curler. While the lashes set, the aesthetician will wrap your lashes in foil or plastic wrap—again, just like a hair perm!—and you will likely need to sit for thirty minutes to an hour to allow the perm solution to take full effect.

Once the process is done, the perm will last anywhere from a month to three months, depending on how well your treat your eyelashes. If an eyelash falls out, it won’t grow back curled! Of course, you should continue to use proper eye care, using only gentle eye makeup remover and cleansers to prevent pulling out any eyelashes and keep the shape of the perm.

But remember, the process isn’t completely risk-free. Applying any chemicals near your eyes always holds a risk for irritation and allergic reactions. If you have sensitive eyes to begin with, then this probably isn’t the procedure for you to try.
