Determine Your Eye Shape (And The Best Look For You!)
Knowing how to determine your eye shape can help you find the best eye makeup styles to look your best. It can determine where you apply your eyeshadow makeup, how you apply your eyeliner looks, and false eyelashes you use. But how can you determine your eye shape?
Using a mirror, take notice of the overall shape of your eye. Is it rounder or flatter? Then, look at the outer corners of your eye (Towards your temples) and the inner corners of your eye (Towards your nose). Does one corner point up higher or lower than another? Examine where your eyes are positioned on your face, paying attention to how much space rests between your eyes (Above your nose). Would there be enough space to fit a third eye in between? You can also note how deep your eyes are set. Do they seem to protrude further out from your face, or are they deeper set? Lastly, notice your eyelids. How much of them can you see when you have your eyes open or closed? Do you have a prominent crease in your eyelids?
See below how to determine your eye shape, and the best flattering eye makeup!
Almond eyes:
Celebrity: Beyonce
Almond shaped eyes are narrower, almost pointed in both corners, with a wider center. True to their name, they resemble the oval shape of an almond. Try an eye makeup look that emphasizes the shape of your eye, like a sleek winged eye. Applying dramatic, flared false eyelashes can also give you a beautiful look.
Round eyes:
Celebrity: Zooey Deschanel
Round eyes tend to be larger than almond shaped eyes, and are more rounded than pointed at the corners. Girls with round eyes can pull off many different eye makeup styles for a great look. If you want to try a really dramatic look, apply very long, very voluminous false eyelashes!
Upturned Eyes:
Celebrity: Lucy Liu
If the outer corners of your eyes point higher than the inner corners, then you have upturned eyes! The slight uplift to your eyes can always make you look bright, and a cat eye always looks purr-fect on ladies with upturned eyes. Applying flared false eyelashes will further emphasize beautiful upturned eyes!
Downturned Eyes:
Celebrity: Julianne Moore
If the inner corners of the eye point lower than the outer corners, then you’ve got downturned eyes! Try makeup looks that give the appearance of a lifted eye, such as applying a light, shimmering eyeshadow to the inner corners of the eye. You can also apply individual false eyelashes to the outer corners of the eye to give an even appearance.
Close Set Eyes:
Celebrity: Sarah Jessica Parker
When you examine the area between your eyes, would there be enough space to fit a third eye (If you can imagine it!)? If not, your eyes are probably close-set. Try balancing the eye by applying a lighter eyeshadow in the inner half of the eyelid, blending a darker shade on the outer half. Again, flared false eyelashes that fan out on the outer corners are great for close set eyes, as they promote the appearance that eyes are further apart.
Wide Set Eyes:
Celebrity: Michelle Pfeiffer
On the other hand, if it seems like there would be space for more than a third eye in between, you likely have wide-set eyes. Try makeup styles that can make your eyes appear closer, like darker eyeshadows. You can try applying very voluminous false eyelashes as well.
Protruding Eyes:
Celebrity: Amanda Seyfried
Do your eyelids recede deeply into your head, while your eyes seem to stand out further? You likely have protruding eyes. This means your eyes likely appear big, a huge advantage to getting a beautiful, retro big-eyed makeup look! Try using long, feathery false eyelashes for a dreamy, supermodel look.
Deep Set Eyes:
Celebrity: Taylor swift
Do your eyelids seem heavier, while your eyes appear to sit further back in your head? Your eyes are probably deep set. Very long, luxurious false eyelashes can make your eyes appear not so deep and bring them forward.
Monolid eyes:
Celebrity: Sandra Oh
Are your eyes almond shaped, but you don’t have a very defined crease to your eyelids? Girls with monolid eyes can wear beautiful, heavy eyeliner looks on both the upper and lower lashlines to make their eyes look powerful and defined! Try smudging an eyeliner pencil in any color in a thick line along your lashline for an instant smoky look. Natural looking false eyelashes will also emphasize this look.
Hooded eyes:
Celebrity: Selena Gomez
Is the crease of your eyelid hidden when your eyes are open? You probably have hooded eyes. Girls with hooded eyes frequently have heavy-looking eyelids that make the eyes look small. Many women with hooded eyes have trouble making their eye makeup last
