Take it Off! The 4 Must-Know Hacks for Removing Your False Eyelashes

So, the big night is over, and you’re ready for bed! There’s just one thing to do…take those false eyelashes off! You’ve probably mastered applying your false eyelashes easily, but what do you do when you need to take them off? We’re all guilty of just yanking them off and calling it a night, but did you know that this can seriously damage your lashes, not to mention your eyes too?! That’s why we’ve come up with the 5 need-to-know hacks for safely and gently removing your false eyelashes to keep them (and you!) looking good.

Be Gentle when removing your false eyelashes

First and foremost, when you’re removing your false eyelashes, being gentle is key. Never, ever tug on your lashes to try and remove them! Not only can this totally damage the false eyelashes themselves, but you can also inadvertently rip out your own eyelashes, and even damage your eyelid.

Know your removers!

Your best bet for removing false eyelashes is to use special glue removers designed especially for false eyelashes. You can find these removers in specialty beauty and makeup shops. However, if you’re unable to find such false eyelash glue removers, you can use an oil-based, liquid makeup remover. Oil-based makeup removers are best for breaking down glue and are gentle on the lashes themselves. Don’t use makeup remover wipes, those can be too harsh on the eye, and can damage the lashes!
Don’t have any makeup remover? Don’t worry, there are a few more tricks! You can try steaming your face in the shower, or over a bowl of hot water, to help soften the lash glue. Be careful not to scald yourself! You can also try using baby oil or gentle face or eye cream on a cotton swab to gently loosen the lashes. Even a wet cotton swab with a little bit of gentle soap can work to loosen the glue!

Start from the corners

Make sure you properly remove your false eyelashes in the best way to cause the least risk of damage. Always start from the outer corner of the eye to remove the lashes, gently pulling out and away from your face, working your way in. Don’t use Tweezers or fingernails to remove the lashes, as this can also damage the lashes and risk injuring your eye. Just use the tips of your fingers as best as you can.

Store

Know how to properly store your reusable false eyelashes. If there is any residual glue or mascara on your lashes after they are removed, you can gently clean them using a cotton swab soaked in makeup remover. Take care not to soak the lashes, this could ruin their curve and make them harder to use! Gentle place the lashes back in their box, or a specialized storage container for false eyelashes, and keep it shut. Store your lashes in a safe, dry place until your next event!
