Five Hacks for Frizzy Hair!
There’s nothing worse than when your bedhead style looks more messy than sexy. Yes, dealing with frizzy hair isn’t fun! Frizzy hair is the result of a hair follicle that doesn’t lie flat. The surface of your hair (called “the cuticle”) is covered with proteins that look like shingles on a roof. When these shingles curl “up” instead of lying flat “down”, your hair will appear frizzy. It can be caused by damage, humidity, or dehydration. People with thicker or curlier hair tend to have the most problems with frizzy hair, but it can affect people with all different hair types! Are you fighting the battle with frizzy hair? Read on to check out our five fabulous hacks to fight frizzy hair!
- Smooth hair starts when you wash your hair. Try shampoos and conditioners designed to smooth hair and prevent frizziness. Since frizzy hair can also be a sign of dryness, you can also try shampoos and conditioners that are hydrating. Once your hair is washed, don’t use a rough towel to dry it. Instead, try an old tee shirt to gentle squeeze water from the hair. Use a leave-in conditioner, along with a wide-toothed comb (or even better—your fingers!) to comb out your hair.
- Have a blow drier with attachments? They’re for preventing frizz! A diffuser will help bring out the natural texture of your hair while you blow dry, without any frizz. A concentrator will help smooth the entire hair shaft, preventing frizzy hair before it starts! Since using hot tools can be drying to the hair, always use a mist of heat protectant spray before blow-drying.
- Another great blow-drying tip: Use the cold setting! Most blow driers have a trigger or setting that will blast cool air at the hair. Cold air will help seal up the hair follicle, giving it a shiny, sleek, and frizz-free finish! If you’re daring, you can also rinse your hair with cold (As cold as you can stand it!) water in the shower. Bonus: It will definitely wake you up!
- They say “you are what you eat”, but for your hair, it’s where you sleep! Try sleeping on a satin pillowcase. Rather than a standard cotton pillowcase, a satin pillowcase has smoother fibers that are less likely to snag your delicate hair follicles into frizzy kinks. The satin will allow the hair to move freely. And for extra insurance against frizzy hair, never sleep with your hair wet!
- Last but not least, make sure you’re taking care of your hair! Frizzy hair is often a sign of damaged hair. Regular heat styling, tight hairstyles, and very cold or very dry weather can all contribute to damaged hair. Do your part to protect and nourish your hair. That includes keeping yourself healthy! A healthy body has healthy hair.
